岩手県黒石町の「黒石寺」で毎年旧正月の７日夜から翌早暁にかけて開催される祭り。東北を中心に行われている蘇民祭の中でも最も歴史が古いと言われる。
真冬の深夜、裸でふんどしを締めた男達が水を浴び身を清める、火の粉を浴びながら山内節を歌いあげる、蘇民袋と呼ばれる麻袋を取り合う争奪戦を行うなどして、五穀豊穣、災厄消除を祈る奇祭。

A festival held every lunar New Year on the night of the 7th to the following morning at Kokusekiji Temple in Kokuseki-cho, Iwate. One of the oldest Somin Festivals held in the center of the Tohoku region.
Midnight, in mid-winter, men purify their body which is only covered by loincloth, sing along with the Yamauchi song while sparks rain upon them. They fight for the Somin bag, a hemp sack, praying for abundant crops and no natural disasters.
