慶安元年、川越藩主松平信綱が祭礼用具を川越氷川神社に寄進し神幸祭を興したことから始まるとされるお祭り。小江戸と呼ばれ、関東でも有数の観光地である川越が、意念でもっとも賑わうイベントで、一般には川越まつりと呼ばれる。江戸時代から現存するもの含め、計２８台の山車が町中を練り歩き、夜には「曳っかわせ」と呼ばれる囃子の競演も行われる。

It is told that it is started when Kawagoe feudal lord, Nobutsuna Matsudaira, donated ritual goods to Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine and had Shinko Festival in the first year of Keian period. Kawagoe is also known as "Koedo" and is prominent tourist site in Kanto, and Kawagoe Hikawa Festival is called "Kawagoe Festival" in general and the most exciting time of the year. 28 Dashi floats, some of them that were made in Edo period, parade through the town and there is festival music called "Hikkawase" played at evening.
