八重垣神社祇園祭は、八重垣神社を中心に10町内から合わせて20基以上の神輿が繰り出されます。笛・太鼓の軽快なお囃子に合わせ、担がれる神輿はこの地方特有のスタイルで、「あんりゃぁどした」という威勢のいいかけ声で練り歩きます。また、祇園祭は神輿の行列に冷水を浴びせかけるのも特徴です。
また、この祇園祭では女人禁制の旧例が緩和されて、女神輿が繰り出されるようになりました。この女神輿は、全国でも珍しく威勢のいい女性達により、男達に負けじと各町内から10基の神輿が渡御されます。

More than 20 portable shrines from 10 local towns come together at Yaegaki Shrine to celebrate this festival. With musical accompaniments of flutes and drums, the shrines are carried based on each areas unique style, high-spiritly shouting “anrya-doshita”. A special part of this Gion Festival is the showering of the portable shrines in cold water.
