秩父川瀬祭は、12月3日の秩父夜祭と対比になるお祭りです。夜祭に対して昼の祭り、冬に対して夏、大人に対して子供のお祭りとなっています。
7月19日の宵祭りは絢爛豪華な8基の笠鉾・屋台が秩父屋台囃子のリズムに乗って、花笠を付けた曳き子によって曳き回されます。20日は秩父神社境内に集合した笠鉾・屋台が御神幸行列に先立ち出発し、重量約400kgもの白木造りの神輿がやがて荒川の清流の中へと入る「神輿洗いの儀式」が行われます。

Chichibu Kawase Festival contrasts with the Chichibu Yomatsuri (Night Festival) on the 3rd December. Unlike the Yomatsuri, the Kawase Festival is during the day in the summer and is for children rather than adults.
On the 19th July, there is a small festival held in the evening where the hayashi accompaniments climb onto 8 gorgeous flowery kasaboko (festive umbrellas) and yatai floats, and children with flowery hats begin to pull the floats.
On the 20th the gathered floats and kasaboke depart. Weighing at about 400kg, the portable shrines made from white wood, are eventually taken into the Arakawa River for the “portable shrine washing ritual”.
