下館祇園祭は、大町の羽黒神社を中心として4日間に渡って行われる県内屈指の夏まつりです。
大神輿「明治神輿」と、羽黒神社の相殿神・玉依姫の「女子神輿」、平成4年に新調され、毎年担ぎ出される神輿としては日本一の「平成神輿」、そして町内の30数基の子供神輿が市街地を練り歩きます。
最終日の早朝には、市内を流れる勤行川でまつり期間中に神輿についた穢れを川に流し清める禊の神事「川渡御」が行われます。

The Shimodate Gion Festival is the prefecture’s leading summer festival that runs over 4 days and focuses on Haguro Shrine in Omachi.
Lots of local portable shrines are paraded around, and on the morning of the last day, the shrines are taken to Gongyogawa River where they are cleansed in the kawatogyo ritual.
