広瀬川灯ろう流し花火大会は広瀬橋近くに救助小屋を設け仙台藩が藩貯蔵米で救助施策を行った江戸時代の大凶作の際、悲運の死を迎えた人々を供養するために始められました。広瀬川のたもとから3000個の灯籠を流す灯ろうが宮沢橋のたもとから流される他、その年毎に趣向をこらしたコンサートも行われ、雰囲気を盛り上げます。また花火も打ち上げられます。

The Hirose Lantern Floating and Fireworks Festival began in the Edo period. The festival began as a memorial to those who met a tragic end when the crops failed. A storehouse of rice near the Hirose bridge was provided by the Sendai clan at the time and the festival began around this. Now over 3000 lanterns are lit and floated down the Hirose River from the edge of the Miyazawa Bridge.
