ヤンサンマ祭りと呼び親しまれている春の一大行事。走馬、神幸式、神馬式、牛乗式、九遍式、流鏑馬式と一連の神事が行われます。加茂神社で行われる神事、「牛乗式」は、牛つぶしともいわれ、王鼻と言われる田の神が乗った牛をひざまずかせることで、農耕神をこの地にとどめ、豊作を祈願します。「牛乗式」は日本でもここだけという奇祭です。最後に行われる「流鏑馬式」は、参道を疾走する馬上から的をめがけて矢を放つ勇壮な神事で、その迫力と伝統美に大勢の人が魅了されます。

This is one grand spring festival and called friendly "Yansanma Festival". Series of rituals are held, starting with Soume, Shinkoushiki, Shinmeshiki, Ushinorishiki, Kyuhenshiki, and Yabusameshiki. "Ushinorishiki" is held in Kamo Shrine and also called as "Ushitsubushi" and praying for gods of farming to stay on this land for good crops by trying to get cows that gods of rice field is riding on down on to get down on their knees. This is a strange festival and "Ushinorishiki" takes place only here in Japan. "Yabusameshiki" is which takes place at the end, arrows are released from the top of the speeding horse aiming targets, this brave ritual appeals strongly to many people by its powerfulness and traditional beauty.
