長岡まつりは1945年8月1日の長岡空襲からの復興を願い翌1946年8月1日に行われた戦災復興祭です。空襲で亡くなられた方々への慰霊、復興に尽力した先人への感謝、恒久平和への願いを込めて白一色の尺玉３発が打ち上げられ、慰霊の花火としています。
2日間で合計2万発というスケールを誇る花火大会です。

Nagaoka Festival began on the 1st August 1945 in the hopes to reconstruct Nagaoka from the air raids during World War II. Now memorial fireworks are held with 3 large fireworks dedicated to bringing lasting peace, as well as a memorial to ancestors and people who have passed away. Over 20,000 fireworks are set off over the course of 2 days.
