奥津軽に古くから伝わる五穀豊穣を祈願する祭りで、虫おくり運行と火まつりが行われます。自然界の森羅万象の神をあがめる風習「早苗ぶり」の行事として伝わる「虫おくり」では、大きな木彫りの龍型の頭に、稲わらで編んだ胴体の虫が村中を練り歩いて部落を巡回します。その後、虫は村の大木に掛けられ、悪疫病害虫から農作物を守り、五穀豊穰をもたらす守護神として祀られます。夜になり河川敷に移動して、火がつけられた虫が昇天する「火まつり」が行われます。
