平七夕まつりは宮城県仙台市に本店のある七十七銀行が平支店を構えたのを契機として、七夕飾りを始め、これに刺激を受けた平本町通り商店が七夕飾りをしたことから始まったお祭りです。
商店街の各店が工夫を凝らした大きな笹飾りが通りを彩る他様々なイベントが行われます。最終日には、いわきおどりも開催されます。

Various events are held at the Taira Tanabata Festival with each store adorned with its own large bamboo decorations. The festival ends with the iwaki dance performed on the final day.
