弘前ねぷたまつりは、三国志や水滸伝などの武者絵を題材とした大小約80台の勇壮華麗なねぷたが、城下町弘前を練り歩く夏まつりです。
由来は諸説ありますが、忙しい夏の農作業の妨げとなる眠気や怠け心などを流す、「眠り流し」という農民行事から生まれ、またねぷたの語源も、「眠り流し」から「ねぷた」と転訛したのではないかといわれています。子どもねぷたや前燈籠など様々に趣向を凝らし、「扇ねぷた」や伝統ある豪華絢爛な「組ねぷた」が、笛や太鼓のねぷた囃子にのせて運行されています。
Hirosaki Neputa Festival is a summer festival where 80 neputa floats of all sizes parade around the castle town of Hirosaki. Each float is adorned with heroic images from stories such as the Water Margin or Romance of the Three Kingdoms. There are all kinds of elaborate children’s floats and lanterns, neputa fans and the traditional and beautiful Kumi Neputa, which move to the flutes and drums of traditional neputa hayashi accompaniments.
