鹽竈神社の約１トンの神輿が１６人の担ぎ手により、稚児行列とともに市内を巡幸します。江戸時代の中頃、天候の不順などによる不作が続いたため、氏子が鹽竈神社に祈ったところ、気候も回復して作柄も良くなったので、報賽の意を込めて安永７年（1778年）3月10日から氏子祭を行うことになり、神輿を出して町内をご神行したのが起源です。
