「えべっさん（胡子大祭）」や「とうかさん」と並ぶ広島三大祭りの一つです。「すみよしさん」とも呼ばれます。本殿前に設置されている巨大な茅の輪をくぐる「茅の輪くぐり」や、人形に自分の身代わりとして罪・汚れをうつし、それを灯籠に乗せて川に流す「人形流し」といった変わったお清めや、子どもみこし、神楽奉納、子供神楽奉納などの行事も行われます。
Sumiyoshi Festival is one of Hiroshima’s 3 largest festivals along with ”Ebe-san” (Ebisuko Festival) or “Toukasan”, and is also known as “Sumiyoshisan”. There is a large chinowa (cogon grass ring) is set up in front of the main shrine that you can pass through for purification. Also, there are also special dolls that allow you to transfer your sins to, which are attached to lanterns and floated down the river in a purification ritual called the “doll flowing” ceremony. There are children’s portable shrines, as well as adult and children’s kagura music performances.
