国の重要無形民俗文化財「八戸えんぶり」は、八戸地方に春を呼ぶ豊年祈願の郷土芸能。その名は田をならす農具「えぶり」や、「いぶり」（ゆすぶり）に由来すると言われ、冬の間眠っている田の神をゆさぶり起こし、田に魂を込める儀式とされています。えんぶりの一番の見どころは、太夫（たゆう）と呼ばれる舞手が、馬の頭をかたどった華やかな烏帽子（えぼし）を被り、頭を大きく振る独特の舞。その舞は、稲作の一連の動作である、種まきや田植えなどの動作を表現したものです。

The national important intangible folk cultural property Hachinohe Enburi is a regional entertainment to pray for harvest richness that brings spring to the Hachinohe district. It is said that its name comes from the agricultural tools Eburi, which fulfills paddy fields, or Iburi (Yusuburi), and it is a ceremony to raise the temple god who is asleep during winter and put the soul in paddy fields. One of the most interesting parts of this Enburi is the unique dance that the performers called Tayuu that wear gorgeous hats shaped like a horse’s head aggressively shake their heads. The dance embodies all the actions that are taken during rice cultivation such as seeding and rice planting.
