郡山うねめまつり旧郡山市と安積郡9カ町村の合併に伴い、市民が一体となれる祭りを催したいということから、郷土の伝説である奈良時代の宮中女官の「采女（うねめ）物語」を主題としたお祭りにしたことが始まりの祭り。
郡山市中心部のメインストリートでのうねめ踊り流しが行われ、踊り手らはパレード形式で、竹飾り提灯で彩られた駅前大通り一帯を山車と共に踊りながら進みます。
初日には、郡山市片平町のうねめ神社にて奈良の市長やミス奈良とともにうねめ供養祭が行われます。

The Koriyama Uneme Festival is based around the former local legend of Uneme, a court lady-in-waiting from the Nara Period.
The Uneme dance is performed down Koriyama’s main street as dancers parade with floats from the station down the boulevard, which is decorated with bamboo lanterns.
