「どろんこ祭り」として広く知られ、豊作を祈願する神事で始まり、裸衆祭礼、神田（しんでん、または御手洗池・みたらしいけ）で、しめ縄のわらを稲に見立て「田植え」をする。「幼児祭礼としてこの日に備えて着飾った満1歳未満の幼児を抱え、神田にて額に泥を塗ってもらうと厄除けになるという。

Known widely as the Doronko Festival, it starts with a ritual praying for good harvest, act out the planting of rice in the shrines field. It is said that if a child less than 1 year of age has mud smeared on the forehead from the shrine fields to ward off back luck.
