郷ノ浦祇園山笠は郷ノ浦町・元居の八坂神社に疫病退散の祈願のため山笠奉納を起源とし２７０年以上の歴史を誇ります。唄子たちの太鼓と掛け声にのって練り歩き、郷ノ浦の市街地や『佐賀里階段（さがりのかいだん）』と呼ばれるの難所の石段を駆け上がります。

This festival is over 270 years old and offers the yamagasa floats to the Yasaka Shrine in Motoi, Gonoura, to pray that no plagues comes to the area. The floats parade around on the sound of the drums, shouts and chants while people run through the city of Gonoura and dangerous stone steps which is called Sagari's steps.
