毎年12月31日(大晦日)の夜、家々を訪れる祝福の神様です。
下甑の各地では、トシドンは天空や高い山や岩の上から、首のない馬に乗ってくると言われています。
シュロの皮やソテツの葉などを使い、鼻の長い恐ろしい顔をしたトシドンが、3歳～8歳の子どもがいる家々を訪れ、
子どもたちの日ごろの良いところを褒めたり、諭したり、歌を歌わすなどして、最後に年餅と呼ばれる大きな餅を与えて去っていきます。
ユネスコの無形文化遺産にも登録されたました。

It is the deity of good luck that visits the homes on December 31, New Year Eve.
It is said in various locations in Shimokoshiki that the Toshidon come for high in the sky and from high rocks and mountains, riding a headless horse.
Using palm bark and sago leaves, a long nosed scary looking Toshidon will come and visit homes with 3 to 8 year olds, and check up on the children, and praises them for their good deeds, gives them advise, makes them sing, and gives them a large mochi called Toshimochi and leaves.
It is registered as an UNESCO Intangible Cultural Asset.
