300年の歴史を持つ、全国でも最大級の正月送りの行事。「左義長」又は「どんと焼き」とも呼ばれる。正月飾りの炊き上げを行い、その御神火を目指して白鉢巻き・白さらしで参拝する「裸参り」が有名。仙台市の無形民俗文化財にも指定されている。

One of the largest after New Year’s events, with a history of 300 years. Also known as "Sagicho" or "Donto-yaki". They burn all the New Year’s decorations, and worship the fire while naked with only a white headband and underwear. The festival is designated as an intangible folk-cultural properties of Sendai City.
