例年、５月１日から５日まで、奥州藤原氏ゆかりの中尊寺や毛越寺を中心とした平泉町内で行われる祭り。藤原四代の追善法要、稚児行列、開山護摩法要、郷土芸能、能や狂言の奉納や義経が平泉に辿り着いた際の往時を再現した「源義経公東下り行列」。最終日には武蔵坊弁慶に因み巨大な餅を抱えて運ぶ力自慢の競技会「弁慶力餅競技大会」も行われる。

Held annually from May 1st to the 5th, festival centered around Chusonji Temple and Motsuuji Temple in Hiraizumi-cho, which have a relation to the Oshu Fujiwara family. A memorial Buddhist service for the Fujiwara family, where children walk in line, have a burning goma hoyo ritual, local performing arts, such as No plays and Kyogen performances, simulating when Yoshitsune arrived in Hiraizumi, called the Minamotono Yoshitsune-ko Azumakudari Gyouretsu. On the final day, in relation to Musashibo Benkei, a competition event where participants carry large mochi in the Benkei Chikara Mochi Competition Event.
