大館大文字まつりは大館市の夏の風物詩で、昼の部・夜の部の２部構成で開催されます。
昼は市内のおおまちハチ公通りを舞台に、浴衣姿の人たちによる大館大文字踊りや市内小学生のスクールバンドによる演奏・パレードが行われ、まつり気分を盛り上げます。
夜になると市内を流れる長木川では花火大会が行われます。また、それと同時に市の東に位置する鳳凰山に 『 大 』 の火文字が浮かび上がり、大館市のますますの発展を祈願します。
Odate Daimonji Festival is Odate's famous summer event and composed of day section and night section.
In the day section, to liven up the festival, People in Yukata perform Odate Daimonji dance and elementary school bands from the town play music and parade.
At night, there are fireworks at Nagaki River which runs through the city. And at the same time, a large "O" (of "Odate") character is lit up with fire on Mt. Hoo in the east of the city, symbolizing prosperous future for the city.
