鹿児島県の無形民俗文化財に指定されている鹿児島県トカラ列島の悪石島に伝わる来訪神行事です。毎年旧暦の7月16日の前夜、男衆が各家を踊って回ります。当日は、太鼓の音に引かれて仮面人のボゼが赤土のついた棒を手に現れ、祭りの参加者に悪霊祓いや子宝にご利益があるという赤土をつけて回ります。

This festival was selected as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Kagoshima Prefecture, and takes place on Tokara Islands. During the festival the group of men go to each house to dance because the deities are visiting Akusekijima Island. The dancers with mask on appear with a stick covered in red soil as they move to the rhythm of drums. They believe that the red soil has the power to drive away evil spirit, so they swing it around for the festival participants.
