200年を超える歴史を持つ戸畑区の伝統行事であり、国の重要無形民俗文化財にも指定さ
れているお祭りです。福岡県夏の三大祭りの一つとして数えられ、「提灯山」とも呼ばれます。昼の飾りや幕で華やかな「幟大山笠」から、夜の提灯に彩れた「提灯大山笠」へ山笠ががらり姿を変えることで有名です。

This festival has been held in Tobata for over 200 years and is recognized as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan. It is one of the three largest festivals in Fukuoka Prefecture and is also known as the “lantern mountain” festival. During the day beautiful nobori ooyamakasa, which are giant yamagasa floats, are decorated in drapes. It us famous that in the evening, they transform into the chochin ooyamagasa which are decorated in lanterns.
