上下両日枝神社の例大祭「山王祭」として、1609年から一度も休むことなく続いているお祭りで、昭和54年から「酒田まつり」として開催している。宵祭り、本祭り、裏祭りの３日間行われ、ステージでのパフォーマンス披露や、町を練り歩く大獅子や仔獅子、傘鉾など約50台の山車行列、約350店舗の出店などで賑わう。

The main festival for the two Hie Shrines, called the Sanno Festival, has not once taken a break since 1609, and since Showa 54 (1979) is called the Sakata Festival. The festival is broken into three parts, the Eve Festival, Main Festival, and Rear Festival. With stage performances, and Lion Dance throughout town, with over 50 Kasaboko floats, and over 350 stall shops makes the festival full of life.
