花笠踊り発祥の地である山形県尾花沢市で行われる、東北の夏祭りの最後を飾る祭りです。毎年8月27・28日に行われます。27日は神輿や囃子屋台などの伝統行列、28日は花笠踊り大パレードを開催します。江戸時代には「東北三大祭」のひとつとされていた歴史は今に脈々と受け継がれ、3,000人を超える踊り手が豪快華麗な伝統踊りを披露し、街中が花笠一色に染まります。
