春の博多どんたく・夏の博多祇園山笠とならび博多三大祭りに数えられる筥崎宮放生会は「万物の生命をいつくしみ、殺生を戒め、秋の実りに感謝する」お祭りです。その起源は「合戦の間多く殺生すよろしく放生会を修すべし」という御神託によるもので、千年以上続く最も重要な神事です。

Hakozakigu Hojoe is counted among the Three Grand Hakata Festivals along with Hakata Dontaku in spring and Hakata Gion Yamakasa in summer. It is a festival to "be affectionate to all creations, prohibit killing, and thank for fall harvest". The origin is based on the oracle of "If you kill many during battles, pursue Hojoe", and it is the most important ritual continuing for over 1000 years.
