富岡八幡宮の例祭は俗に「深川八幡祭り」とも呼ばれ、「江戸三大祭」の一つに数えられています。3年に1度、八幡宮の御鳳輦が渡御を行う年は本祭りと呼ばれ、大小あわせて120数基の町神輿が担がれ、その内大神輿ばかり54基が勢揃いして連合渡御する様は「深川八幡祭り」ならではのものです。
深川のお祭りは「ワッショイ、ワッシヨイ」の伝統的な掛け声と「水掛け祭」の別名通り、沿道の観衆から担ぎ手に清めの水が浴びせられ、担ぎ手と観衆が一体となって盛り上がるのが特徴で、江戸の粋を今に伝えるお祭りとなっています。

This annual festival in Tomioka Hachiman is commonly referred to as the “Fukagawa Hachiman Festival”, and is one of the three major festivals of the Edo period.
It is tradition to shout “washo washo” at the Fukugawa Festival while water is poured over the procession by the spectators to purify them, giving it the special name of “mizu-kake matsuri” which means “water pouring festival”. The procession and crowd get fired up together, and even now you can feel the true essence of this Edo festival.
