隅田川花火大会は、隅田川沿いの河川敷において行われる花火大会。東京三大花火大会の一つに数えられる。
川施餓鬼とあわせ、慰霊と悪病退散を祈願する目的で、両国の川開きの日に水神祭を実施した際に花火を打ち上げたのが、現在の花火大会のルーツとされる。
毎年約20000発の花火が打ちあがる。

This is a huge fireworks display that takes place on a dry riverbed along the Sumida River. It’s one of the three largest fireworks displays in Tokyo.
It isn’t just any normal fireworks display, but acts as a memorial for those who have passed away or drowned, as well as to scare off sickness. The fireworks display was originally on the day of a river festival in Ryogoku for a local water god.
Now over 20,000 fireworks are launched every year.
