柳楯とは先端の葉を残して皮をはいだ柳の小枝25本を縦に並べ、ここに5本の青竹を横に渡して藁縄で結び楯の形にしたもの。五所の人々に警護された柳楯の一行が、飯香岡八幡宮の氏子に出迎えられ古道を経て同神社に入り、拝殿での神事の後、柳楯を先頭に神輿が町内を渡御すという行事。

A Yanagidate is made with 25 small twigs from a willow tree with the bark peeled off and held together flat with 5 horizontal green bamboos and tied with together with braided straw. A party of guards that held the Yanagidate protected by the people of Gosho, would enter the Iigaokahachimangu Shrine with the guidance of the parishioner, and after the ritual in the main shrine building, the Mikoshi would travel through town with the guards with the Yanagidate taking the lead.
