大阪三大夏祭に数えられるお祭りの一つ。海の日には御神輿をお清めする神輿洗神事が本祭に先んじて行われ、無形文化財の「夏越祓神事」や最終日の神輿渡御などが行われる。
３１日の例大祭を中心とした3日間、住吉大社周辺が屋台や参詣客で賑わう。
Sumiyoshi Festival is one of the three largest festivals in Osaka. Portable mikoshi shrines are purified at this festival with special ritual on Marine Day prior to the main festival. Also, there is Nagoshi no Haraeshinji (which is a designated Intangible Cultural Heritage) and float purification on the last day. This is a 3-day festival around the 31st and Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine is packed with stalls and tourists.
