村上市の村上大祭、柏崎市の柏崎えんま市とならび新潟三大高市（たかまち＝縁日）といわれているのが新潟市の蒲原まつりです。このまつりの特徴は他と違い、神輿の動的なものはなく、露店の並ぶまつりです。かつては露店の出店数が７００店ほどありましたが、時代の流れとともに現在では約４５０店ほどの出店になりました。延べ1kmにわたり露店が並び、新潟名物「ぽっぽ焼き」の露店も多数出店します。神社境内には昔懐かしい「おばけ屋敷」や「射的」などがありお祭り気分を盛り上げます。また、830年の伝統を持つ、その年の稲作の豊凶を占う神事「御託宣」（おたくせん）も蒲原神社神楽殿で行われます。
