「大したもん蛇まつり」は関川村で、1967(昭和42)年8月28日に発生した羽越大水害と村に伝わる大蛇伝説をテーマに1988(昭和63)年に始まりました。メインイベントの大蛇パレードに登場する長さ82.8m、重さ 2t の大蛇は村民の手作りで、竹とワラで作った世界一長い蛇としてギネスブックに認定されています。
まつりは、毎年8月下旬に開催され、大蛇パレードのほかにも花火大会、盆踊り大会、福まきなどが行われます。
