みなみかた花菖蒲まつりでは、約50000平方メートルにもおよぶ広大な回遊式大庭園に､３００種類８０万本の花菖蒲が咲き乱れます。中でも幻の花「花且美（はなかつみ）」は平安初期の古今集にも詠われ､松尾芭蕉も陸奥の各地を訪ねて探したと言われています。花菖蒲の株や地場産品の販売も行われます。

At Minamikata Hanabashou (Iris) Festival, three hundred kinds, eight hundred thousands hanabashou bloom beautifully at a large stroll garden which is about 50,000 square meters. ”Hanamikatsu” a phantom flower is mentioned in early Heian period’s Kokinshu. Even Basho Matsuo explored around Mutsu to look for this flower. Hanabashou’s roots and local products are also sold at the festival.
