1982年に個人作家、製陶所、販売店の垣根を越えて有志が集まり出展者36名でスタートしたこの祭りは焼き物屋の知名度向上、笠間市の知名度アップのために始まった。期間中はフリーマーケットや即売会などのイベントが行われる。

Initially started in 1982 by a group of 36 writers, potters, and earthenware resellers to make the local pottery more well-known, and to spread the word about Kasama City. During the festival, there are various flea markets and pottery exhibits and sales at the events.
