広島三大祭のひとつで、地元では「えびす講」や「えべっさん」とも呼ばれ、親しまれています。
明治34年の胡子神社鎮座三百年祭より、商売繁盛の守り神「こまざらえ(熊手)」が売り出されるようになりました。商売繁盛を願う多くの人々が、胡子神社周辺に並んだ出店で「こまざらえ」を買い求め、胡子神社でお祓いをしてもらいます。
地元のえびす通り商店街では、祭りの開催にあわせて大売出しが行われ、30万人近くの人出で賑わいます。
原爆被災後わずか3カ月後に祭典を行い、400年以上途切れることなく続いている、広島に冬を告げる代表的な祭りです。
