Yamagata City First Market(Hatsuichi)

Hatsuichi is a traditional event that has continued since the early Edo period during the reign of Yoshimitsu Mogami (1546-1614). While there were scattered towns where regular fairs were held at that time, the market held on January 10 each year in Tokamachi, the center of those fairs, enshrines the city god and continues as "Hatsuichi".

The city god is enshrined at Yudenyama Shrine adjacent to Bunshokan, and a visit there in conjunction with the first market is recommended.
