祭神である菅原道真の命日にちなんで全国の天満宮で開催されるお祭の中でも、千年を超える歴史と伝統を持ち、日本三大祭のひとつに数えられる。
祭のクライマックスには、大川に約100隻の大船団による「船渡御」や5000発もの花火が夜空を彩る。

The Tenjin Festival happens at Tenmagu Shrines across Japan on the anniversary of Sugawarano Michizane’s deification as the Shinto god Tenjin. It is over 1000 years old and is one of Japan’s largest festivals.
The festival’s climax at Okawa has a fleet of over 100 ships and 5000 fireworks light the night sky.
