御柱祭は、7年目毎の寅と申の年に、諏訪人22万人をあげて盛大に行われる諏訪大社氏子のお祭り。その勇壮さと規模から天下の大祭として全国的にも有名です。直径約1m、長さ約17m、重さ約12tにもなるもみの巨木を、諏訪大社氏子が総出で山から切り出し、里へ曳き、最後には上社・下社の各社殿を囲むよう、四隅に建てられます。巨木を山から里へと曳く「山出し」は4月に、里から各社殿へと曳き建てる「里曳き」は5月に開催。また、諏訪地方の各地区にある小宮と呼ばれる神社でも秋に御柱祭が行われるなど、一年を通して盛り上がります。次回開催は平成28年（申年）。
The Onbashira Festival is held every 7 years on the year of the Tiger and Monkey, where 220,000 people visit the Suwa area, and a very large festival is held at the Suwa Shrine. Known nationwide as the large festival in the whole world from its magnitude and spirit. A log with a diameter of 1 meter, length of 17 meters, and weighing 12 metric tons is cut out from the mountain by parishioners of the Suwa Shrine, and pulled to town, and is finally erected around the upper and lower shrine buildings. The Yamadashi process of bringing the log from the mountains down to town is performed in April, and the Satohiki, where the log is erected at the shrine is performed in May.
