来年の五穀豊穣を祈願する行事です。新米を粉にして水で溶き、おしろいを作って顔に塗り、顔への付き具合で、来年の作柄を占うというものです。昔からの「伝説」によると、大山祗神社を「山の神」と呼び、山の神は元来「女の神様」といわれています。その「女の神様」がお化粧をする事を意味し、「おしろいをぬる」といわれています。

An event to praying for good harvest in the following year. First soaking powdered new crop rice to creating facial power, then placing it on the face. Depending on how it sticks to the face, they are able to tell the fortune for the crops next year. According to legends from old, they called Oyamazumi Shrine the Yamanokami, and the Yamanokami is originally a female deity. It is called "oshiroi wo nuru" to imply that the female deity applies make up.
