沼田まつりは、牛頭（ごず）天王を祀る須賀神社の祭典が沼田祇園祭（おぎょん）の源流で、昔は本町と称する上之町、中町、下之町の3カ町の氏子が中心となり祭りを実施したことからはじまりました。
現在は、200軒を超える露店が集まり例年8月3・4・5日の3日間に行われており、約200人の若い女性により担がれる巨大な「天狗みこし」を筆頭に、人形を飾りお囃子をつけて曳行する「まんどう」、各町による「町みこし」、誰でも自由に参加することができる「千人おどり」などのイベントが開催されています。
The giant “Tengu Shrine” is carried and led by around 200 young women. “Mando” floats decorated with dolls and accompanied by musicians parade down the street with each town’s portable shrine. Then there is the “1000 people dance” where everyone is free to participate and dance.
