市内各団体が、20メートル近い竹竿の先につけた提灯を激しく揉み合いながら、相手の提灯の火を消し合う祭りで「関東の奇祭」と言われております。この祭りは、江戸時代古河藩領（現・栃木県野木町）であった野木神社の神官が、ご神体の神鉾を奉じて馬に乗り、神社の神領である七ヶ村の末社をめぐり「七郷めぐり」を終え、12月3日末明に帰社するのを、提灯を持って出迎えた人達が、寒さをしのぐために身体を揉み合ったのが始まりで、その名も「お帰り」と言われました。

This festival is known as "Kanto's Strange Festival," in which groups from all over the city violently fight to extinguish each other's lanterns, which are attached to the end of a nearly 20-meter-long bamboo pole. This festival began when the priests of Nogi Shrine, which was the domain of the Furukawa Domain in the Edo period (now Nogi-machi, Tochigi Prefecture), rode their horses to visit the seven villages in the shrine's domain and returned to the shrine at dawn on December 3 after completing the "Shichigo Meguri" tour on horseback, with the sacred spear as the deity of the shrine. This was the origin of the festival, which was also known as "Ohayo" (meaning "return home").
