養老2年（718年）から続き1300年の歴史をもち、旧暦の潤年の翌年にのみ開催される古式豊かな祭り。室根山の8合目にある室根神社から本宮、新宮の2つの御神輿が祭場のお仮宮を目指して先を競う東北名代の荒祭りです。国重要無形民俗文化財指定。

The festival has a 1300-year history dating back to the 2nd year of Yoro (718), and is a richly traditional festival held only in the year following the lunar calendar year of Jun. This is a famous Tohoku Ara Matsuri festival in which two Mikoshi (portable shrines), the Hongu and Shingu, from the Murone Shrine at the 8th station of Mt. Designated as a nationally important intangible folk cultural asset.
