1948年、葉たばこ耕作者の慰労のために開催されたのが始まりで、現在は、市の発展に貢献してきた先人の努力と情熱を伝えるお祭りとして開催されている。毎年約30万人の観光客が訪れ、ジャンボ火起こし綱引き、お神輿、ねぶた、阿波踊り、よさこい、千人踊り、吹奏楽パレード、チアリーディングやキャラクターショー、太鼓、花火、物産展など沢山の催しが楽しめる。

To acknowledge the service of tobacco farmers, the festival was started in 1948. Now days, the festival represents the city's efforts to acknowledge the sacrifice by the predecessors. 300,000 tourists visit the festival annually, with various events such as a large fire starting tug-of-war, Mikoshi's, Nebuta, Awa dance, Yosakoi, Sennin Dance, Wind Instrument Parade, Cheerleading, character shows, Taiko drums, fireworks, produce exhibits, and so on.
