多くの偉業を成し遂げた江戸時代の名奉行・大岡越前守忠相公の死後、１９１２年に従四位の贈位祭が行われたことがその起源とされる。初日は、茅ヶ崎駅北口の特設ステージでは、市内の高校、大学、社会人の吹奏楽団体による演奏が行われる他、浄見寺で大岡家の遺徳を偲ぶ法要が執り行われる。2日目は、神輿やマーチングバンド、祭りばやしなど総勢1,500名に及ぶ大行列が行われる。

After the death of Ooka Echizen, a great Edo period magistrate, started as a posthumous conferment festival in 1912. On the opening day, various local bands gather to perform at special stage setup at the North exit of Chigasaki Station. And at the same time, a dedicatory ritual is performed at the Joken Temple for the Ooka family. A Mikoshi is carried around with a marching band with a parade of over 1500 people on the second day of the festival.
