メルヘンおやべ源平火牛まつりは源平倶利伽羅合戦の際に木曾義仲が用いた作戦「火牛の計」にちなんだ祭りです。火牛の計レースは、祭りの1番の見所で、鉄骨の台車の上に据え付けられた藁でできた巨大な牛を引いてタイムを競います。走る姿は誠に勇壮で、まるで800年前にタイムスリップしたかのような雰囲気の中、レースが行われます。 また、和太鼓や舞踊、まち流しのほか、キッズダンスなどのステージや屋台村コーナーなどイベント盛りだくさんです。

This festival marks the Genpei Kurikara Battle when Yoshinaka Kiso used the strategy of “Kagyu no Kei”(the Flaming Bull Stratagem). The festival includes the Kagyu no Kei race where people pull straw cows on giant steel frames and compete for time.
