一年の無病息災を祈願し、菖蒲神輿（しょうぶみこし）をかつぐ若者たちが「お薬師さん」と呼ばれる薬王院温泉寺から出発。高張り提灯を先頭に、菖蒲神輿がもみあいながら湯の町を練り歩きます。お祭り期間中は、古来から邪気を祓うと伝わる菖蒲の香りが、街中いっぱいに広がります。

While carrying the Shobu Mikoshi, the young carry it from the Yakuoin Onsenji Temple (also called Oyakushisan), to pray for a year of no illness and no disasters. With a lantern set high up in front, the Shobu Mikoshi parades through town while clashing with each other. During the festival, the aroma of Shobu (Iris) can be noticed throughout town, which is said to ward off evil.
