越中八尾は富山市南西部の山あいの町。その地で300年余踊りつがれてきた「越中おわら」。その唄と踊りは叙情豊かで気品高く、哀調の中に優雅な趣を有しています。格子戸の民家、土蔵等、昔の面影を残すまち並みに数千のぼんぼりが立ち並び、三味線、胡弓、太鼓の音に合わせて哀調帯びた唄や格調高い男女の踊りが、坂の町を揃いの法被や浴衣姿で流し歩き、編み笠の波が行き過ぎます。

Ecchu-Yatsuo is a town in the mountains on the southwest part of Toyama City. The Ecchu Owara, a dance that has been passed down for over 300 years in the area. The song and dance are very detailed, with a graceful taste within the mournful melody. Several thousand lanterns line the streets of town with a very classic scene with homes with lattice doors and old warehouses. Sounds of shamisen, fiddles, and drums can be heard with men and women dancing and singing to the note. Participants dressed in matching happi, yukata, with straw hats flow through town.
