熊谷うちわ祭は、愛宕八坂神社の例大祭。
「関東一の祇園」と称され、 山車6台・屋台6台が、賑やかな熊谷囃子を鳴らしながら市街地を練り歩く巡行を中心とした祭りです。直径30cm程度の大音量の鉦を用いる囃子、2台以上の山車・屋台を向き合わせる・並べるなどして囃子を競う「叩き合い」に特色があリます。期間中、行宮・商店を始め街中の至る所で団扇が配られることからの名であり、特に団扇を用いた催事があるわけではありません。

Kumagaya Fan Festival is regularly held at Atago Yasaka Shrine.
Referred to as “one of Kanto’s Gion Festivals”, bustling Kumagaya hayashi musicians place with six floats and six portable shrines while they parade around the neighborhood. The shrines and floats ‘fight’ as two or more of them face one another and the hayashi musicians riding them ring out giant gongs which diameter is about 30cm.
