ぐず焼まつりでは、ハッピに白足袋姿をした約100人の若者や子どもたちが、十数mの大きな張り子のぐずを担ぎ、太鼓の伴奏に合わせながら街中を暴れ回ります。グズというのは大きなドンコ（ハゼの一種で純淡水生の魚）のことで、木の枠の上に竹や藁で、長さ７ｍ〜８ｍのグズに仕上げたものを使います。駅前で行われる青年会ぐずとぐず連ぐず、子供ぐずのせめぎ合いはみものです。迫力の乱舞を繰り広げたあと、振橋神社でぐずを燃やして五穀豊穣を願います。グズを焼いた炎の燃えさかる神社の境内で、振橋節の輪踊りが夜遅くまで続きます。そのほかにもイベントや初老の餅まきなどが楽しめます。

Over 100 young people and children wear happi festival jackets over white shorts as they carry paper-mache guzu, giant fish with large teeth. They rampage through the town accompanied by drums. The guzu are large dark sleeper fish (a freshwater fish that’s a type of goby), that are made on a frame of bamboo and straw and are about 23-feet-long.
