「斎王まつり」は天皇の代わりとして伊勢神宮に祈りを捧げた皇女、斎王を偲ぶお祭りです。見どころのひとつ「斎王群行」では、全国から選ばれた斎王をはじめ、内侍、命婦、采女、女孺などの女官に扮装した約120人によるきらびやかな王朝絵巻が再現されます。前夜祭のほか、60を超える出店がある斎王市、アトラクションなど、さまざまな催しが行われます。

Saiou Festival is a festival meant to remember the Saiou, an Imperial Princess who in the Emperors stead, went to the Ise Shrine to give prayer. One of the highlights of the festival is the Saiou Gunkou, which is an enactment of the glorious dynastic parade by approximately 120 participants dressed as the Saiou, chosen nationally, and various court ladies such as maids of honor, high ranking court ladies, maid-in-waiting, and lower ranking court ladies. Besides the night before festival, over 60 stalls open for the Saiou Market, other attractions, and various events are held.
